Gift of The Cherokee
Created by T.A. Hamilton

This trick has nothing to do with Indians of any tribe, but
it does make this novel ESP trick much more colorful.

You begin by explaining that several years ago, you were invited by
the Cherokee Indian Tribe to Perform at their reservation. The show
was a complete success and you were well received. Upon
conclusion of the show you were asked to join some of the elders
for a meal in your honor. While speaking with one old indian man,
he offered to show you something that was extremely unusual.

He produced an old worn deck of playing cards and this is just
what he showed me that evening.

(With the premise out of the way, you begin the effect.)
 ___________________

Take up a deck of playing cards, and have them shuffled by
the most skeptical person in the audience.

While this is proceeding, look through the audience and find
some likely looking man or woman and ask them to assist you
on stage. Taking back the cards, you allow the assisting person
to proceed to the platform or stage in front of you in a very
polite manner. Tell the assistant to follow your instructions
carefully.

"When I turn my back, I want you to deal off the top two cards
of the deck face down onto this tray, and then you may
return to your seat."

You openly take the tray, making no false moves, and
proceed to the front of the audience. Ask two persons
to take one card each, being careful not to allow you
to see the cards. When they have noted the card's value
and suit, have them to place the cards in a pocket out of
sight. When this has bee completed, place the tray out of
the way and then stand there in deep thought. This is
where you may use all the acting ability that you have,
as you ask the two spectators holding the cards to
concentrate upon the value of the cards. Struggle as you
attempt to devine the name of each card, then suddenly
name the cards loudly and have the spectators verify
that you are correct by holding their cards high for
everyone to see! You of course are 100% correct!

_________________________

The secret lies in the tiny amount of preperation and
your skill of showmanship.

The deck is actually shuffled for real!

However, on the way back to the stage,
you simply add two cards to the top of the
deck unseen by the spectators who will be
watching as one of their own ascends to the
platform or stage and will not notice the tiny
deception. Since you already know the names of the two
cards, the rest of the effect is simply a matter of
working the trick to a proper climax
