CARD MAGIC
FOR DUMMIES
Improved Handling
and Routine by T.A. Hamilton
Here is a card
trick which should prove to be a good comedy
closeup routine
for you.
This Trick is based
on the Excellent "Joker Spelling
Routine created
by R.W. Hull.
The requirements
for this excellent card effect are thus:
A.
Two BLANK Playing Cards both having the word
"DUMMY" printed
on the face of the cards.
B.
Cards are prearranged in the following order:
Q, 7, 10,
A, 5, DUMMY, J, 2, 9, 6, DUMMY, 4, 8, 3
(any suit desired
may be used)
C.
The KING is placed BACK OUTWARD in the
Shirt or Jacket
Pocket.
With this setup,
you are ready to perform a miracle!

Tell a spectator
that you want him/her to try an
experiment,
and ask if they are a Good Speller?
To show the
spectator what you want done, you
proceed to
show them. I.E. - Spell out A-C-E
putting one
card from the top to the bottom of the
packet for
each letter. Turn Up the next Card and it
will be the
ACE!
Table the Ace
to the side.
Continue with
Two and Three by
spelling T-W-O
as before placing a card from the top
to the bottom
of the packet for each letter and finally
turning over
the next card which is the 2.
Table the 2
to the side and continue with the 3.
Counting cards
from top to bottom as you spell
T-H-R-E-E.
Table the 3
to the side.
Now hand the
packet to the spectator and ask them to
spell F-O-U-R
just as you did...
However when
the spectator turns over their card
expecting
the 4, they get a DUMMY Card!
Take the packet
back and place the DUMMY card on
the bottom
of the packet.
You explain
that the spectator must not have been
paying close
attention. You now spell F-O-U-R and
when the next
card turns up it is indeed the 4.
You say...
let's do it again...
You spell F-I-V-E...
Turn up the 5 and table the 5
to the side.
Now for the
6.
Suit actions
to words and spell S-I-X. Turn up the 6,
table it to
the side and tell the spectator, that you'll
give them
one last chance to try thier hand at spelling.
The spectator
spells S-E-V-E-N. Turns up the next card
and to his
astonishment, it is once again the
DUMMY card!
Take back the
packet, place the DUMMY card on the
bottom of
the packet and You spell S-E-V-E-N.
This time
the correct card appears and you table it to
the side once
more. Now continue with the E-I-G-H-T
and the N-I-N-E.
Let the spectator
try once again this time going for
the T-E-N.
Wooops... The spectator gets the
DUMMY Card
again!
Take back
the packet.
Place the Dummy
card on the bottom of the Packet
and proceed
to spell the T-E-N. The proper card
appears and
is of course tabled to the side.
Now give the
remaining packet to the spectator again,
and have them
attempt the J-A-C-K.
Hoover Dam...
They get the DUMMY Card
again!
Place the DUMMY
Card on the bottom as you take
the packet
back and say:
Since the DUMMY
card has caused him so much trouble,
we'll just
have you spell D-U-M-M-Y!
This will ostensibly
get rid of the DUMMY Card!
He does so
and amazing as it seems... this time he is
right! The
DUMMY Card appears just when it is supposed
to. At this
point take his DUMMY Card that has just been
turned up
and place it BACK OUTWARD in your shirt or
jacket pocket.
As the card is going out of sight, simply
slide the
DUMMY CARD INTO THE POCKET and PULL
UP THE KING
BACK OUTWARD! This will be assumed to
be the same DUMMY
CARD!
Tell the spectator,
that since he has given you the DUMMY
card there
will be no more trouble with it and you will
leave it in
full view in your pocket.
Now, with the
DUMMY Card Gone, ask him to spell:
Q-U-E-E-N.
He does so in the same fashion as previously
done and again
this time he is correct and the QUEEN
appaers as
if on que!
As there is
only One card left, you tell the spectator
to just TAP
the card the required number of times for
the K-I-N-G!
He spells K-I-N-G...
But Upon turning the card over,
The DUMMY
Card Apears again, and you may now
slowly reveal
that the card in your pocket is indeed
the KING!
Try This Trick!
I am Sure You Will Get Plenty Of
Mileage Out
Of It!
